The U.S.S. Buran was a 23rd-century Cardenas-class starship that was commanded by Captain Lorca. The D7 battle cruiser is one of the most important ships in the Klingon fleet. This is the original version of the class, which was commissioned by High Chancellor L'Rell to unite the Klingon Houses.

The ship was designed by Ryan Dening, who was careful to pay tribute to Matt Jefferies' original and the redesigned version that was made for Star Trek: The Motion Picture. Dening's version has appeared on both Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.

The U.S.S. Voyager NCC-74656-J was a 32nd-century descendant of Captain Janeway's famous ship. It followed a similar design, but had detached hulls and warp nacelles and used programmable matter. It also acted as the tested for the Pathway drive, which worked without dilithium.
